We need to detect vehicles entering a covered access lane and distinguish them from posts near the gate. What information would you use to decide between LMS111-10100 and LMS151-10100? The scanner will communicate with an industrial PC over Ethernet.

Compare the current product data sheets for environmental limits, usable scanning range, angular resolution, interfaces and available evaluation functions. Also check the exact connector and cable arrangement because the mechanical installation often drives the final choice.

Map the lane in a simple sketch and mark the smallest separation between a vehicle and each fixed object. That gives you a practical resolution requirement and makes an on-site comparison much more meaningful.
