A scanner near a machine guard occasionally reports points on or behind the glass. Cleaning helps only temporarily. What installation changes are most useful before attempting software filtering?

Try changing the scanner or window angle so the beam is not close to normal incidence. Check for reflections from bright internal surfaces, and test with the final lighting because small geometry changes can redirect a strong return.
Record separate scans with the guard open, closed and lightly contaminated. That gives you evidence for defining a near-window exclusion region without masking valid objects farther into the scene.
